To start I'd like to ask a simple question, who doesn't like rockets? I mean the fact that we can even make one is awesome! SpaceX is doing to the rocket industry what Apple did with the mobile industry (ehem, iPhone). A lot like Apple though it's really about who's running the show that makes the company what it is, and so you may ask who's in charge at SpaceX? none other than real-life Tony Stark (and consequently my idol) Elon Musk!
I don't want to talk a lot about Elon, cause I'll probably (definitely) go on a tangent on a counta' he's my idol and such. The point is he's a big deal.
SpaceX was founded in 2002 with the hopes of advancing rocketry enough to eventually colonize Mars (yeah the planet). If you've heard any recent news about colonizing Mars it's a pretty good bet SpaceX had something to with it.
Essentially what i'm trying to say about SpaceX, if i'm trying to say anything is that it is by far the most exciting company out there! We get to see all of its' successes and failures along the way to its ultimate mission(s) to Mars.
A good example of those failures comes via a recent landing attempt on April 14, 2015. SpaceX was trying to land this bad boy on it's drone ship "Just Read the Instructions", the news apparently was that the Falcon9 rocket landed fine but tipped over due to "excess lateral velocity" according to the man himself, Elon Musk.
Their plan is to have their rockets land without a hitch and reuse them on future missions, dramatically reducing the cost of reaching orbit. The current way of doing things is to trash the old ones and make new ones for future missions. That's like trashing an Airplane after every flight (that would be insane!).
Will we ever get to Mars? Who knows, probably, but the journey is the most exciting part and SpaceX is spearheading it!
